A college student was killed and another injured in an attack by a young man at Bangabandhu Udyan in Barishal city on Thursday.
The dead man was identified as Rubel Hossain, 1st year student of Brajamohon College and son of Gias Uddin of Ujirpur upazila.
Quoting victim's family, police said Mehedi Hasan Rony, ex-husband of Sauda, used to harass her and a general diary was lodged with the local police station in this regard.
On Thursday, Sauda with her younger brother Rafsan and his two friends Rubel and Mitul went to Bangabandhu Uddyan.
At one stage, Rony swooped on Sauda with a sharp weapon. When Rafsan and his friends tried to save Sauda, Rony stabbed them with the sharp weapon, leaving Rubel and Mitul injured, UNB reports.
They were taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where Rubel succumbed to his injuries.
Rony was arrested, said Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.
