Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has spoken by phone with Omar bin Hadi, brother of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the spokesman of Inquilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8 who was shot earlier in the day.
The interim prime minister contacted him at 9pm on Friday, expressing concern over the attack and giving assurances of full government support for Hadi’s treatment, according to his office.
“I have held an emergency meeting with several advisors along with police and security officials. Instructions have been issued to arrest those involved without delay,” Yunus said.
He added that the government would cover all treatment costs and arrange the “best care” at home or abroad.
“Hadi is someone dear to all of ‘us’. We pray for his swift recovery. We hope he returns to us soon,” the chief advisor said.
Osman Hadi was shot in the head in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar in the afternoon and moved from Dhaka Medical College Hospital to Evercare Hospital, where doctors say the bullet may have passed clean through his skull.
DMCH neurosurgeon Zahid Raihan, who operated on him, described his condition as “extremely critical” and said they cannot offer any hopeful updates.
