Interim government Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, who was critically injured after being attacked by assailants in the capital’s Bijoynagar area.
Terming the attack “completely unacceptable,” Dr Yunus said such violence during an election period is deeply regrettable and harmful for the country’s peaceful political environment.
He has directed authorities to ensure the highest level of medical care for the injured Hadi, and instructed the Ministry of Health to monitor his treatment closely.
At the same time, the Chief Adviser ordered law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and comprehensive investigation to identify and arrest all attackers. He instructed officers to collect evidence from the scene, gather eyewitness accounts, review CCTV footage, and determine whether the incident was pre-planned.
Dr Yunus stressed that no form of violence intended to disrupt the election will be tolerated. Ensuring public security and the free movement of candidates is the state’s responsibility, he said, adding that the perpetrators—whoever they may be—will be brought to justice.
Calling for calm and restraint from all political groups, activists, supporters and citizens, the Chief Adviser urged everyone to help ensure a peaceful, participatory and safe election.
The information was confirmed by the Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder on Friday (12 December).
