Muhammad Yunus is set to visit Chattogram for the first time as the chief advisor to the interim government.

He is expected to visit his hometown on Wednesday, according to a report by the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

The head of the government is scheduled to attend several programmes during the day-long visit.

His Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said the chief advisor will attend the fifth convocation of Chittagong University as the chief guest, according to bdnews24.com.

He will also visit his ancestral village Bathua in the Shikarpur union of Hathazari Upazila.

Upon his arrival in Chattogram, Yunus will first visit Chattogram port and attend a meeting at the NCT-5 premises. He will exchange views with senior port and shipping officials, representatives of port users' organisations, and leaders of trade bodies there.

Later, he will proceed to the Chattogram Circuit House, where he will unveil the foundation stone of the Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River. The long-anticipated bridge is expected to greatly benefit residents on the river’s southern bank, including those in Boalkhali and Patiya Upazilas.

Relevant officials will also brief the chief advisor on key urban challenges, such as waterlogging and traffic congestion on Hathazari Road from the Oxygen Intersection.

In addition, Yunus will hand over land documents for the Chattogram National Heart Foundation to the relevant authorities.
