Ganosamhati Andolon chief coordinator Zonayed Saki has warned that describing Bangladesh’s upcoming election as part of an “Indian agenda” is a harmful narrative that could fracture domestic political unity.
“We need justice, reform, and elections for our own needs,” he said at a memorial event in Dhaka on Sunday, marking the eighth death anniversary of Advocate Abdus Salam, the first executive coordinator of the party.
Criticising claims linking electoral demands in Bangladesh to Indian influence, he said it was “very dangerous propaganda” to suggest that calls for elections in Bangladesh are made “in accordance with India’s wishes” just because Indian media or politicians support them.
Biplobi Workers Party general secretary Saiful Haque, AB Party chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju and Gono Odhikar Parishad general secretary Rashed Khan, among others, spoke at the event.
