A college in Mymensingh city has been closed indefinitely to control the situation after a series of attacks over a “love dispute”.
The attack on Shambhuganj GKP College took place throughout Monday, said Kotwali Model Police chief Md Shibirul Islam.
Principal Sultana Parveen said, “I fainted after a series of attacks on the college. I had come to bring the situation under control, but later another group attacked again, which made the incident escalate further.”
Authorities said the college has been closed indefinitely after the incident.
According to police, students, and local BNP members, a second-year student and a first-year student liked the same girl, sparking an argument around 10:00 am.
Witnesses said the second-year student allegedly slapped the first-year student, prompting intervention from the college authorities, who kept the latter in a room and assured to resolve the matter after a meeting.
The first-year student, however, phoned his friends and family, who soon arrived armed with local weapons and attacked.
