194 journalists face harassment in Bangladesh in January-August: ASK

At least 194 journalists fell victim to harassment in Bangladesh in January-August 2020, according to a report by a local independent rights body.

Of them, 22 received death threats by phone, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) says in the report.

It adds that 19 journalists were attacked and harassed by political parties while as many others were tortured and harassed by 'terrorists'.

Some 76 cases were filed in connection with media reports during January-August of this year, ASK points out.

According to the local rights body data, at least 142 journalists were harassed in 2019 while some 207 journalists faced harassment in 2018.
