6.0kg gold recovered at Dhaka, Chattogram airports

Customs officials in separate drives arrested a man and recovered 5.9kg of gold from Dhaka and Chattogram airports on Sunday and Monday.

In the capital, the customs officials recovered four gold bars weighing four kilograms from a toilet of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early Monday.

Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner (preventive team) of Dhaka Customs House, said that on secret information, a team of customs raided the toilet of 8 no boarding bridge of the airport around 1am and recovered the gold bars worth Tk 20 million from a bin.

In Chattogram, the customs intelligence officials arrested a man along with 1.9kg of gold from Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday.

The arrestee was identified as Rafique Ullah of Raozan upazila of the district.

Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director Dr Shahidul Islam, said a flight landed at the airport from Dubai on 11 am.

Tipped off, a team of customs intelligence challenged Rafique Ullah and recovered 1.9 kgs of gold worth Tk 10 million after searching his body, reports UNB.
