85 new patients hospitalised in six dists of Rajshahi div in last 24 hours

BOGURA, Aug 18: A total of 85 new dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals in six districts of Rajshahi division during the last 24 hours.

August, September and October months are also being considered to be risky, said experts of the region. Experts said if extensive efforts were not taken immediately, the situation could take a turn for the worse.

The authority concerned requested all not to be misguided by a social media campaign that asks to use toilet cleaner and bleaching powder in basins to kill Aedes larvae. Those would not destroy the larvae, they added.

The survey said Aedes larvae or pupae was found in wet floors, plastic barrels, buckets, clay pots, used or abandoned tyres, tubes, water tanks and discarded colour pots.

At least 1770 people were infected in Joypurhat, Bogura, Sirajganj, Pabna, Chapainawabganj and Natore districts till Sunday and the number of the patients are increasing gradually across the vast Barind tract.

According to the advice of physicians some 301 patients are taking treatment under the different hospitals across the region. The number of Aedes mosquitoes found increasing every day. Aedes mosquitoes breed in relatively clean water in and outside houses.

A total of 35 people have been affected with dengue fever in Bogura in the last 24 hours. Some 133 are taking treatment across the district with mild treatment of the doctors and nurses both in privates and government hospitals.

Over all a total 663 people have already been affected with the fever, causing serious concern among the guardians and school authorities.

Civil Surgeon Dr Gosul Azim Chowdhury of Bogura said many people have come to Bogura from Dhaka because of the Eid holidays. With the end of the Eid holidays, many are going back to work in Dhaka adding that we are trying our level best to ensure treatment for the dengue patients.

Civil Surgeon Dr Zahid Nazrul Choudhury of Chapainawabganj said some 13 people have been infected with dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Some 35 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 168 people have already been affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Md Zahidul Islam of Siraganj said dengue fever has infected 20 people in the last 24 hours. Some 68 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 414 people have already been affected with the fever.

Meanwhile a patient Mehedi Hasan, 20, son of Alamin Hossain at Hawlakandi village under Kamarkhanda upazila of Sirajganj district died of dengue fever on Sunday.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mehedi Iqbal of Pabna said dengue fever has infected 20 in the last 24 hours. Some 56 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 341 people have already been affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin of Joypurhat said dengue fever has infected 02 in the last 24 hours. Some four are taking treatment across the district. A total of 58 people have already been affected with the fever.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Azizul Islam of Natore said no one has been affected with dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Some 10 are taking treatment across the district. A total of 134 people have already been affected with the fever.

The authorities have been continuing awareness campaign with the help of villagers to prevent dengue. If extensive efforts were not taken immediately, the situation could take a turn for the worse, they added.

Our Correspondent from Magura writes: Dengue outbreak has raised panic among common people across the country.

Magura civil surgeon office sources said the number of dengue patients who got admitted to the Magura 250-bed Hospital and different upazila health complexes till August 18 is 151.

In the mean time three people died from dengue.

Joya Shaha of  Putia village under Magura Sadar upazila died on August 4 while Joynal Abedin of Narshinghata village died on August 15 and Shuman Mollah of Chandpur village died on August 17.

At present 25 patients are admitted at the Magura 250-bed Hospital.

Magura Civil Surgeon Prodip Kumar Shaha said, "We are giving importance to social campaign to make people aware about dengue. We distribute leaflets and run cleanliness drive around dwellings to destroy breeding places of Aedes mosquitoes."

Magura district administration, Magura municipality, police department and local non-government organisations are conducting social campaign in this connection.
