Amnesty passengers from Malaysia may require to count more than double the regular air fare for flying the special flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, a statement of Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur showed.
The national flag carrier has fixed RM (Malaysian Ringgit) 1294 for economy class without luggage and RM 1744 with luggage for one-way flight per person from December 14 onwards compared to that of RM 750 and RM 94 tax as the highest one-way fare for economy class until mid-November this year.
The lowest one-way fare was RM 350 and RM 94 tax without luggage.
On the other hand, the highest economy class fare for return flights was RM 1500 and RM 375 tax. The lowest return fare for economy class was RM 525 and RM 375 tax without luggage.
The one-way business class fare was RM 1305 and RM 224 tax while the return was RM 2045 and RM 505 tax.
But now the undocumented workers who are given amnesty by the Malaysian government under the 'Back for Good' (B4G) programme will have to pay RM 2424 without luggage and RM 2929 with luggage for business class.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines last Thursday decided to operate 16 extra flights on Dhaka- Kuala Lumpur-Dhaka route dedicated for the amnesty passengers in Malaysia from December 14 until December 31 alongside the regular flights.
When contacted, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Mohibul Haque told the FE that it is quite normal that the air fare for special flights will be high as the aircrafts will go empty from Dhaka. There is no problem with the regular flight fare, he added.
The illegal migrants who have been given amnesty under the 'Back for Good' (B4G) programme by the Malaysian government are now facing tremendous difficulties in Malaysia due to scarcity of air tickets and high fare.
Biman is supposed to deploy both Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner to carry the migrant workers from Malaysia. At present weekly 10 flights are operated on Dhaka- Kuala Lumpur route including two Dreamliners. Biman currently operates Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur flights with Boeing 737 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
