Bangladeshi sexagenarian swimmer eyes Guinness World Record

Khitindra Chandra Boishya, a 64-year-old freedom fighter (FF), has started swimming to cross 186 kms of the Bhogai River, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record.

Khitindra started the swimming jumping into the river from the west side of a bridge in Nalitabari upazila headquarters in Sherpur district at7:00am on Monday.

Arifur Rahman, Nalitabari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), inaugurated the swimming programme in presence of hundreds enthusiastic people.

The UNO said Khitindra will cross Kongso and Mogra rivers in Netrakona district and reach Dewan Bazar ghat in Madan upazila on September 5, swimming 60 hours without any break.

Madan Upazila Nagarik Committee and Nalitabari pourashava are providing necessary support to Khitindra to make his attempt a success, reports UNB.

Khitindra said female swimmer of Florida in the USA has a record of swimming 177kms.

Earlier, Khitindra crossed 146 kms swimming for 16 hours.
