BD prisons holding inmates more than double to capacity

Country’s all 68 prisons are holding prisoners more than double to its capacity, according to official data.

The Prisons Directorate data showed that there were 88,721 inmates, which is 142 per cent higher than the capacity of 36,614—34,940 males and 1,674 females—in the prisons, as of December 07, 2018.

Of the prisoners, 17,317 are convicted and the rest of 71,404 are facing trial, while only 3,394 of them all are females.
