BD worker killed in Brunei road accident

A Bangladeshi worker was killed in road accident during doing repairing works on a bridge in Temburong district in Brunei on Saturday last.

The worker has been identified as Rezaul Karim Sardar (35), hailed from Joypurhat, according to Bangladesh high commission in Bandar Seri Begawan.

His passport number is BD-BP0883424. He worked at a construction firm named Chuon Tzu Const Co.

When contacted, Jelal Hossain, first secretary at the Bangladesh mission there said police has filed a case for legal action.

Bangladesh high commission is also taking preparation to lodge a lawsuit to make sure compensation to family of the deceased, he said.

“We came to know that the bridge named Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin remains opened for vehicle movements until 10.00pm. But the accident was occurred at 10.20 pm,” he mentioned.

Anwarul Islam, uncle of the victim staying in Brunei told the FE that when his nephew Rezaul and his four others collogue were doing repairing works on the bridge, a high-speed car hit Rezaul.

He was severely injured and taken to a hospital. But he died within a short time, he mentioned.

“The bridge remained closed when the workers were working on it. So, how did the car enter on the bridge?” he posed a question.

Mr Islam said the car driver should be taken under due punishment immediately.

Earlier, such types of incidents also happened, but victims did not get due justice, he added.
