Bangladesh has dropped four notches in the World Press Freedom Index, taking up the lowest position among South Asian nations.

The country has been ranked 150th among 180 countries in exercising press freedom in 2018, revealed the report, published by Reporters Without Borders (RWB) on Thursday.

In its 2017 report, Bangladesh had been ranked 146th among 180 countries in terms of media freedom, which was a two-step fall from the year before.

RWB, an international organisation that promotes and defends press freedom, has shown that Bangladesh continues to notch down in providing press freedom for media and space of free speech.

Neighbouring India and Pakistan have been ranked 140th and 142nd, respectively, while Norway topped the list with its media enjoying the highest freedom, the report reveals.
