Binadhan-19 and Binadhan-21, two high yielding varieties of paddy cultivated in Aush season are marking a new record of production in 95 days after planting.

Farmers got four and a half tonnes of paddy per hectare of land. So Binadhan-19 and Binadhan-21 have become very popular among the farmers as the production is high and the cost is low.

According to agriculturists, there is a bright prospect of increasing the cultivation of Aush paddy in Mymensingh region in future.

Amir Khasru, a veteran farmer of Boyra area of Sadar Upazila of Mymensingh, said once, Aush paddy was cultivated in a vast area here but we got about 400 kg to 480 kg paddy per acre.

Cultivating local varieties of paddy, the farmers could not even make up the production cost. Due to low production, the cultivation of Aush was decreasing day by day.

On the other hand, due to bumper production of paddy in the Boro season, the farmers are inclined towards boro cultivation and the planting rate of Aush has come down to almost zero.

Under the direction of the present government, the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) developed two improved varieties of Aush paddy like- Binadhan-19 and Binadhan-21.
