‘Criminal’ dies in Rajshahi ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug pedlar was killed in a reported gunfight with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Paba upazila of Rajshahi in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased was identified as Hasibul Hossain, 34, son of Aftab Hossain Pochu of Sonakandi village. He was wanted in several cases.

According to Major AFM Ashraful Islam, deputy commanding officer of RAB-5, a team of them conducted a drive at Afi Nepalparha at around 3:00 am. 

At the time, the elite police team asked the criminals to surrender but they defied and fired gunshots triggering a gunfight. 

One of the drug pedlars suffered bullet wounds. The RAB team rescued and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

One pistol, one magazine, two bullets and 78 bottles of Phensedyl syrup were recovered from the spot.
