Customs detains man with foreign currency at HSIA

The customs intelligence men have arrested a passenger with foreign currencies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).

The arrested person was identified as Md. Mithu who was carrying US dollar, Saudi Riyal, euro, Qatari Riyals and UAE (United Arab Emirates) Dirhams amounting to the tune of over Tk 12 million while travelling to Chittagong on Sunday night.

Customs officials challenged the person while he was proceeding to board a Regent Airways flight from Dhaka to Chittagong.

Later, they recovered foreign currencies after searching his body and belongings.

He was handed over to airport police station.

A case has also been filed against him under Special Power and Money Laundering Acts.
