Customs seize more than 30kg gold at Dhaka airport in 24 hours

Customs officials at the Dhaka airport have seized gold bars weighing over 30kg in 24 hours since Saturday evening.

 

Officials found 250 gold bars on a passenger coming from Singapore and seized another six, weighing 1kg each, from an aircraft.

 

Customs Assistant Commissioner HM Ahsan Kabir said the six gold bars were found abandoned in a toilet of a US-Bangla Airlines flight, which arrived from Kuala Lumpur Sunday morning, reports bdnews24.com.

 

On Saturday, gold bars weighing around 25kg were found on Mohammad Jamil Akter, a wheelchair-bound passenger of Singapore Airlines, who was faking illness. Each of the 250 bars weighs 100 grams.

 

The estimated street value of the gold confiscated from the man is around Tk 125 million, according to customs officer Ahsan.
