DB Police kill ‘cop murderer’ in city ‘shootout’

A suspect in the murder of DB police Jalaluddin was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police at Pirerbagh in Dhaka's Mirpur area early Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a drive near 60-feet Bhanga Bridge area around 2:30 am for recovering arms, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, a group of young men gathered in the area and opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

An unidentified young man, aged about 25, was caught in the line of fire and sustained bullet injuries while the others managed to flee the scene, he said.

Later, police recovered body of the young man and took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 3:45 am.

Police suspects that the deceased might be a suspect in DB police Jalaluddin, who was killed in a gunfight with criminals, murder case, said Masudur Rahman.

Police also recovered three arms, including two lost guns of two police sergeants, from the spot, reports UNB.

Earlier, on March 20, Jalaluddin, an inspector of Detective Branch of police, was killed in a reported gunfight with criminals at Middle Pirerbagh in the capital's Mirpur area.
