DNCC evicts 400 shops from roads, footpaths

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Thursday removed around 400 shops set up occupying roads and footpaths in Farmgate and Karwan Bazar areas.

Besides, super shop Agora and Prince Hotel were fined Tk 300,000 for keeping rotten vegetables and fruits as well as cooking in an unhealthy environment, reports UNB.

DNCC Zonal Executive Officer of Zone-5 and Executive Magistrate Meer Nahid Hasan conducted a mobile court drive from 10:30am.

During the drive, 200 shops were dismantled from Karwan Bazar area while 200 more shops from Farmgate Footbridge and Indira Road areas.

The mobile court also fined Tk 100,000 to Agora and Tk 200,000 to Prince Hotel at Indira Road for keeping rotten vegetables and fruits and cooking in an unhygienic environment respectively.

Another mobile court, led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Sajid Anwar, fined five shops Tk 60,000 at Banani for selling green chilli at higher prices and not hanging the price list.

It also fined two meat shops Tk 40,000 for not keeping the price list while a grocery store at Natun Bazar Tk 10,000.
