East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) has organised a research seminar on Rohingya genocide in Myanmar on Google Meet app.

The online seminar titled ‘Rohingya Persecutions in Myanmar: Ethnic Cleansing or Genocide? A Theoretical and Empirical Study’ was held on Wednesday.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the EWU, conducted the seminar while Md. Pizuar Hossain, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law,of the university was speaker.

The speaker presented both qualitative and quantitative data of his study and made a comprehensible distinction between the ethnic cleansing and genocide from the current context to the Rohingya crisis.

On the basis of Dr. Gregory H. Stanton’s 10-stage model of genocide and the patterns of crimes committed against the Rohingya ethnic community in Myanmar, he argued that the Rohingya persecutions clearly bear the hallmarks of genocide.

After the presentation, a lively question and answering session also held on the occasion, says a media release.

At the end of the seminar, Professor Dr. Muhammed Shahriar Haque, Executive Director, EWUCRT also spoke to the audiences.

A numerical number of faculty members, officers as well as students of the university participated in the online seminar.
