A virtual court in Dhaka on Tuesday rejected a bail petition of Meftahul Islam Zion, a 15th batch student of naval architecture and marine engineering department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), in a case for the killing of Abrar Fahad, another student of the institution, in October last year.

Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman passed the order after holding hearing on the bail petition filed by Zion's lawyer through email on Monday.

The judge, in his order, said the accused was directly involved in the killing and he gave a confessional statement before a magistrate on October 11 last year.

So, his bail petition had been rejected, the judge added.

Advocate Faruk Ahammed took part in the hearing on behalf of Zion while public prosecutor Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan stood for the state.
