First onion consignment via cargo plane due tonight

The first consignment of onion by air is scheduled to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) from Egypt in Dhaka at midnight.

Commerce minister Tipu Munshi informed this to the reporters at a press conference on recent price hike of onion at his secretariat office on Tuesday.

Commerce secretary Md. Jafar Uddin and other officials of the ministry were present at the press briefing.

The government has a target to bring in 50,000 tonnes of onion through air that will meet 50 per cent of the country’s demand until November 30 which will be sold through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), he said.
