Fish farming in cage begins in Magura

Fish cultivation into cage has been launched in Magura formally on Monday.

The programme is being run in the district with the help of district fishery department. In the inaugural ceremony of the programme Tk 0.8 million were distributed among 4 fishermen. Every fisherman was provided with Tk 0.2 million. To cultivate fish in every 10 cages Tk 0.4 million are required. As every fisherman is provided with Tk 0.2 million to cultivate fish in 10 cages the rest money will come from self funding .

In cage method at first young fish is captivated in the cage then the cage is kept into river water. For this the fish can take food from river water reducing feeding cost. Moreover fish can grow rapidly in natural environment.

By terms fish will be cultivated in the district in 70 cages in this year. At present fish production in the district is 16,000 tonnes per year while the demand is 17000 tonnes. So the district is facing deficiency of 1000 tonnes fish per year. If fish cultivation in 70 cages become successful, more 240 tonnes fish will be produced in the district creating more employment.

In the inaugural ceremony through keeping caged fish in Modhumati river under Mohammapdur upazila of Magura district fishery officer Narayn Chandra Dash was the chief guest while survey officer of Magura district fishery department Oahiduzzaman Shapan and Magura district press club general secretary Shamim Ahmed Khan special guest with Mohammadpur upazila Nirbahi officer Sadekur Rahman in the chair .
