Leading food and grocery delivery platform foodpanda has onboarded the first batch of transgender riders and equipped them with bicycles and smartphones. The initiative was launched with support from TransEnd, an organisation dedicated to empowering members of the Bangladeshi transgender community, according to a press release.

Initially, 20 riders were onboarded in Chattogram and Dhaka. Several other members of the transgender community have already been working as warehouse staff in foodpanda’s pandamart dark stores, added the release received on Thursday.

As part of the campaign, foodpanda has trained the riders for several weeks and furnished them with proper delivery gear so that they can work proudly and independently.

TransEnd has facilitated the whole process and supported foodpanda in hiring and training the riders.

Marking the end of their training, a small ceremony was held at foodpanda hub office in Chattogram on Thursday where the gears were distributed among the riders.
