Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight between their cohorts and police at Choubaria Haat in Manda upazila of Naogaon district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Sujon Mia, 42, and Mozammel Haq, 35, reports UNB.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Niamatpur Police Station, said tipped off, that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of Niamatpur thana and Manda thana police went to the spot.

When the robber's gang was heading toward Choubaria Haat by a truck, a part of the joint team put a barricade on the road to arrest them, the OC said.

At one stage, the robbers opened fire to police to avoid the arrest by breaking the barricade, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

Two robbers caught in the line of fire during the gunfight and died on the spot while two others sustained bullet injuries.

Police also arrested two wounded robbers-Imran Hossain and Sohel---from the spot while the others managed to flee the scene, said the OC.
