The High Court has given Green Line Paribahan until May 22 to pay the remainder of the Tk 5.0 million compensation to Russell Sarkar, who lost his leg after being hit by a bus of the company on Dhaka’s Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover.

The court had issued an order requiring Green Line to make the payment after hearing a writ petition. After paying Tk 500,000 to Russell, the transport group sought a month's time to pay the remaining amount, reports bdnews24.com.

But after hearing about Green Line's failure to pay Russell within the stipulated time, the court on Wednesday issued the latest order and warned the company of severe consequences for failure to comply. The court will issue further orders in the case on May 22.

The petition is being heard by the bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader.

Russell, a former private car driver, was seriously injured after his was hit by a Green Line bus on Jatrabari's Mayor Hanif Flyover on April 28, 2018.

Doctors had to amputate one of Russell's legs in order to save his life. The court ordered the authorities of Green Line to pay for the expenses of the treatment of his other damaged leg.
