Pakistan beat India emphatically by 10 wickets in their first match of Group B in the ICC T20 World Cup to finally break the deadlock of defeating India in an ICC tournament.

Going into this match, Pakistan had faced India 5 times in the T20 World cup without being able to manage a single win.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan changed that as the duo put on a 152 run opening partnership to win the match with 13 balls to spare.

The openers made sure the required rate was always under control throughout the innings. Babar finished the game with 68 runs off 52 balls while Rizwan scored 79 off 55 balls.

Earlier in the game, India posted a total of 151 for the loss of 7 wickets. Shahin Afridi was on fire with the new ball as he dismissed the dangerous opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul cheaply.

It left the Indian skipper Virat Kohli with the job to rebuild the innings in the middle. Once Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket fell, he stitched up a 53 run partnership with Rishabh Pant and then a 43 run stand with Jadeja.

Kohli scored his 29th T20I fifty as he anchored the innings with a gritty 57 off 49 balls before getting dismissed by Shaheen Afridi’s bouncer. Shaheen finished with figures of 3 for 31.

This was the first time Pakistan won a T20I game with 10 wickets in hand.
