Jhikargacha Upazila Chairman Sabira gets six years imprisonment for corruption

A Dhaka court has sentenced Jashore’s Jhikargacha Upazila Chairman and BNP leader Sabira Sultana to six years in jail for providing false information and amassing illegal wealth.

Judge Md Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 passed the verdict on Thursday in a case started by the Anti-Corruption Commission or ACC in 2009.

The court also ordered confiscation of her illegal wealth worth over Tk 1.79 billion, ACC lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said, bdnews24 reported.

The judge issued an arrest warrant for Sabira, a member of the BNP’s Central Executive Committee, as she did not appear in court during the verdict.
