Major social media outage hits popular services

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram users appear to be unable to access social network sites and apps as the sites are experiencing offline server issues.

Twitter is also packed full of complaints with users confirming the problems on their feeds, reports express.co.uk.

The outage has started earlier this morning, as fans flooded rival social media sites saying they couldn't login.

At the time of writing, independent outage monitor Down Detector has registered more than 3,000 reports from users insisting Facebook is plagued with an outage.

A map on the site showed the UK, US and large areas of Europe are affected by the connection issues. Facebook outage issues have also hit parts of Asia.

The problems are also affecting Facebook Messenger, as well as Facebook-owned services like Instagram and WhatsApp.

There's currently no word from Facebook or the other companies about what is causing the problems or when things will be back online.

One user writes: "Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp DOWN. I feel handless."

Another posted: "FacebookDown - seems to be fairly catastrophic. Can't even load the page to log in."

One Twitter user joked that it was time to relax now that the social media sites are down: "Seems like all socials owned by Zuckie are down.... #whatsappdown #FacebookDown time to relax?"

Best of all is the tweet by another user suggesting that we break out the carrier pigeons.

"Break out the CB radios and carrier pigeons. #WhatsAppDown #FacebookDown #instagramdown."

There's no word from Facebook about what is causing the problems or when things will be back online.

Express Online will continue to update the article as the story develops.
