Moniruzzaman new ICAB president

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) has elected Md Moniruzzaman FCA as its president for the year 2023.

In addition, Md Yasin Miah FCA, MBM Lutful Hadee FCA, and Md Johirul Islam FCA have been elected vice presidents (VPs) of the Institute.

The new office bearers of ICAB were elected by the members of its Council at a meeting on Saturday, with current ICAB President Md Shahadat Hossain FCA in the chair. New president Md Moniruzzaman will take over on January 01, 2023.

Mr Moniruzzaman is a senior partner of ACNABIN Chartered Accountants. He served ICAB as the vice president for operations and members services for 2019.

Presently, Mr Moniruzzaman is a board member of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and also a member of the Academic Committee of the Faculty of Business Studies at the University of Dhaka. He also served various listed companies in different capacities.

New VP Md Yasin Miah is the proprietor of M M Yasin, Chartered Accountants. He is also the chairman of P 4 Consulting Limited and a VAT consultant - NBR, and a member, IIA- Florida, USA.

Mr Miah has been a faculty member of ICAB for the last 15 years. He is a trainer of VAT and SD Act 2012.

Another VP Lutful Hadee is the proprietor of Hadee Lutful & Co. (HLC), Chartered Accountants, a dynamic consulting and advisory firm in the country.

Before founding HLC, he was the Partner-in-Charge of the Taxation & Legal Compliance Department of Howladar Yunus & Co. (HYC), Chartered Accountants.

Prior to his time at HYC, he worked at Citycell (a SingTel subsidiary), GP (a Telenor subsidiary) and MFH Financial Services Ltd. (a merchant bank) for more than 10 years in the department of finance, taxation, legal, corporate and secretarial affairs.

The remaining VP, Md Johirul Islam, is the Partner of A Qasem & Co., Chartered Accountants, Member firm of Ecovis International.

Mr Islam completed his LLB from Chittagong Law College under the University of Chittagong and has been practising tax and corporate law for more than 30 years.

He is a senior member of the Chittagong District Bar Association and Chittagong Taxes Bar Association.
