Move to launch Trade Support Centre for women in Rangpur

The government is going to launch a ‘Trade Support Centre’ in Rangpur to help women so that they can boost their business at home and abroad.

Women will get training from the centre on producing export items suiting to global standard.

The centre will also provide latest information and data related to import and export to boost up their business at home and abroad.

The information was revealed at a workshop on ‘Support to Women Traders to Promote Exports and Up-gradation of Bangladesh Trade Portal (BTP)’ held at Rangpur Chamber auditorium on Saturday, reports BSS.

Ministry of Commerce organised the workshop under Bangladesh Regional Connectivity Project (BRCP)-1 with assistance of Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and World Bank.

Women entrepreneurs and traders, chamber leaders and officials of National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh from Rangpur division took part in the workshop.

Joint secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Director of WTO Cell Hamidur Rahman Khan attended the workshop as chief guest while joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce Hemayet Uddin was in the chair.

Consultant of International Finance Corporation of World Bank Khalid Hossain was present as resource person. Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib and RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu also spoke on the occasion.

Speakers said the government has taken various steps to extend support to women entrepreneurs for promoting exports of their quality products to flourish their business.

Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur said the number of women entrepreneurs is increasing in Rangpur division where many women entrepreneurs are successfully running many enterprises, creating their own positions and employments for women.

RCCI President Titu said Bangladesh is moving forward following simplification of trade through various pragmatic initiatives of the present government. He urged the government for taking more effective steps so that women entrepreneurs could easily get bank loans and can do business in a women-friendly environment.
