Nahid for popularising technical education to achieve SDGs

Stressing the need for popularising technical education, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said attaining sustainable development goals (SDGs) is not possible without technology-based education.

The minister made the observation while addressing the inaugural session of a workshop on ‘Designing TVET Plan to Attain SDGs’ as the chief guest on in the city on Sunday.

Technical and Madrasah Education Division (TMED) of Ministry of Education with the support of Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) organised the workshop.

The STEP is a project of Bangladesh government, World Bank and Canada which is being implemented by the Directorate of Technical Education since 2010 to develop technical education in the country.

State Minister for Technical and Madrasah Education Division Kazi Keramat Ali and Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs of Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad were present at the workshop as the special guests.

In his speech, the minister said, “Education is our priority, but technical education is the priority of the priorities.”

The incumbent government has taken various initiatives to popularise technical and vocational education targeting the Vision 2021 to achieve the middle income status, Nahid added.
