NBR awards GP as highest taxpayer in telecom sector

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has awarded Grameenphone Limited as the highest tax payer in the county’s telecom sector.

Grameenphone CEO Michael Foley and Deputy CEO & CMO Yasir Azman received tax card, certificate and  crest from NBR as a recognition of the achievement.  

The award ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Dhaka hotel on Thursday, according to a media release.  

NBR previously awarded Grameenphone as the highest tax payer for the year 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 for the corresponding assessment year 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-19 in the Telecommunication category.

Since its inception, Grameenphone has paid BDT 730.85 billion (73,085 crore) to the national exchequer, the release said.

Grameenphone also participated in the inauguration of the Annual Tax Fair on Thursday to portray their solidarity with the practice of lawful tax payment system and handed over a cheque of BDT 1.5 billion (150 crore) as ‘Advance Income Tax’ to the National Board of Revenue.
