The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Monday endorsed nine development projects at a combine cost of Tk 123.66 billion.
Among the projects, six are revised ones and the remaining three are fresh projects.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined the meeting from her residence in Gonobhaban and presided over the ECNEC meeting.
After the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan on a virtual briefing told reporters that the nine projects would require additional fund of Tk 27.89 billion.
Out of the total additional expenditure, Tk 13.53 billion will be provided from the government’s internal resources, Tk 9.50 billion from the external resources as the project aid and rest Tk 4.40 billion will come from the implementing agencies’ own fund, he said.
The projects include installation of single point mooring double pipe line project (2nd revision) at a total cost of Tk 65.68 billion, repowering of Ghorasal power unit-3 (1st revision) at Tk 29.56 billion, construction of 1430 m bridge on the Tista River on the Pachpir Bazar-Chilmari upazila sadar connecting road in Gaibandha (2nd revised) project at Tk 8.85 billion.
Meanwhile, the prime minister directed the authorities concerned for not building so many bridges on the rivers for keeping the navigability smooth.
Planning Minister MA Mannan said the prime minster has given the instruction to keep the riverine navigability as well as protect the soil erosion and other environmental degradation.
The ECNEC meeting was attended by some cabinet ministers, Planning Commission members and high officials concerned.
