A good number of people in Charmohor upazila under the district have been making bamboo items from the last three decades.
Bamboo craft artisan Akmal Hossain said, "We do not have own land. We work in crop field as day-labourers. We made bamboo items for additional income."
He said artisans collect bamboos from nearby Haripur, Boailmari, Toltoli Para, Chorokol, Shial and Choil villages of the upazila.
Traders from Mirzapur, Railbazar, Faridpur and Bogra visit the area and purchase bamboo baskets (Duli). These baskets are in high demand in the areas during the harvesting period, he added.
He said each basket is being sold at Tk 90 to Tk 100.
A good number of artisans said they need assistance to run their profession smoothly. They urged the authority concerned to arrange an easy-term loan facility for them.
