State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak has stressed the need for ensuring road safety for every single day in a year.

To this effect, the minister also urged all drivers to drive safely and cautiously to avoid road accidents in the country.

Terming the offline trips as dangerous and risky, he called upon the passengers to ride on through apps in this regard.

His views came at a function styled Safety First, jointly organised by a2i (Access to Information) and Pathao, country's one of the leading ride-sharing platforms, on the occasion of National Road Safety Day 2019.

Lawmaker Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who is also the brand ambassador of the ride-hailing service, and Pathao CEO Hussain M Elius, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

Pathao will distribute 6,000 helmets among the riders as free during the week-long road safety campaign.

Mr Palak further said people like drivers, passengers and law enforcement agencies should be very careful and alert on three ‘E’- Education, Engineering and Enforcement to ensure the road safety.
