A passing out parade and oath taking ceremony of the freshly trained 849 soldiers under the 98th recruit batch of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was held at the Bir Uttam Mojibur Rahman Parade Ground of the BGB at Baitul Izzat under Satkania upazila on Thursday.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal attended the event as the chief guest. Senior Secretary at the public security department under the home ministry Akhtar Hossain and BGB Director General Major General Sakil Ahmed were present as special guests.

Addressing the newly-recruited frontier guards, the home minister said, "Discipline is the basic identity of a soldier. A true soldier is one who never backs down from his orders and duties."

He said honesty, intelligence, sense of responsibility, loyalty, brilliance and enthusiasm are the yardsticks of discipline and professionalism in an army, the home minister said.

He called upon the frontier guards to carry out the noble responsibility of safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the country by carrying out any responsibility to be assigned to them.

He also suggested them to be motivated and inspired by the four principles of BGB - morale, fraternity, discipline and efficiency.

After a 24-week of tough, intensive training, services of 849 soldiers of the 98th batch who took part in Thursday's parade and were sworn in, began on Thursday. Among the 803 soldiers, 46 were women.
