An elderly woman was killed and at least 13 other people sustained injuries as the bus in which they were travelling, plunged into a ditch on Patuakhali-Kuakata highway in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shorvanu (80), wife of Abdur Rahman of the upazila’s Khujara village.
Officer-in-Charge of Kalapara station, Md Alauddin said, the incident occurred around 7:30 am when a Kuakata-bound bus ‘Samudra Saikat’ from Dhaka fell into a roadside ditch after being hit by a tree, leaving the woman dead on the spot and several others injured.
Among the injured, 10 people were taken to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex while others were sent to Patuakhali Medical College and Hospital, according to a local media report.
