Police arrest another suspect over lynching of woman in city

Police have arrested a teenager, suspected to have been involved in the lynching of a woman in Badda, in Bhulta area of Narayanganj district on Tuesday night.

Police identified the arrestee as Hridoy, 19, reports UNB.

A case was filed after Taslima Begum Renu was beaten to death on Saturday at North Badda in Dhaka over child abduction rumour.

Earlier on Sunday night, police arrested three people from Ali Mor area in Uttar Badda after reviewing a video clip of the incident.

Hridoy was arrested as a suspect in the case.

A special team of Detective Branch (east division) conducted a drive in the area and arrested him around 8:30pm, said deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (media) Masudur Rahman.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said people involved in mob beatings over rumours of child abduction will not be spared.

At least six people have so far been killed and 15 others injured in mob beatings triggered by child kidnap rumours. So far, nine cases have been filed and 81 people arrested.

Minister Khan said those who are responsible for the killings will be made accused in murder cases.
