An under-construction Hindu temple was vandalised in a sequel to a land dispute at Pachpara Bazar area under Shikdarmallik union in Pirojpur Sadar upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.

Police arrested two people - Ohed Haoladar, 45 and Muhidul Islam, 50 - of the area for their alleged involvement in vandalising the temple 'Sri Sri Kali Mondir', said S M Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station.

Shekhor Chandra Mandol, general secretary of Shikdarmallik union Puja celebration committee alleged that the local UP chairman Advocate Shahidul Islam and his men carried out the vandalism and dumped an idol to a nearby ditch around 2 pm following a dispute over the land in the temple premises.

Visiting the affected temple, Additional Police Super of Pirojpur district Molla Azad Hossain said, "Some parts of the temple's infrastructure were vandalised during the attack. We will take proper steps once complaint is lodged."

However, the UP chairman denied his involvements in the vandalism claiming that he was staying in Dhaka during the said attack.

Meanwhile, agitating locals blocked Pirojpur-Dhaka road demanding immediate arrests of the people behind the attack.

Later, the mob withdrew the blockade upon police's insistence, OC Ziaul added.
