Police have recovered two bodies in Chuadanga’s Damurhuda upazila after an alleged gunfight between ‘drug traffickers and criminals’.

The incident occurred around midnight on Friday at a field near Gobindhuda Village, said Damurhuda Model Police Station OC Sukumar Biswas.

In addition to the two bodies, weapons and drugs were found at the scene, police said.

The dead have been identified as Mohammad Jhantu, 40, and Dhulo Hossain, 43.

Jhantu is named on the Home Ministry’s list of drug traffickers, police said. He has been accused in 11 cases at various police stations.

According to police, Dhulo was an ‘infamous local extremist’ and had been accused in over a dozen cases, including six of murder.

Police conducted an operation in Gobindhuda Village at around 1:00 am after reports that two gangs engaged in a shootout in the area, said OC Sukumar Biswas. Jhantu and Dhulo’s bodies were found lying on the field, he said.

A firearm, two rounds of ammunition, six grenades and three bottles of Phensedyl syrup were found on the scene, bdnews24 reports.

“Our initial understanding is that Jhantu and Dhulo were killed during a feud over control of the drug trafficking business,” said Biswas.
