An alleged criminal was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of miscreants at Nimtala village in Chaugachha upazila of Jashore early Tuesday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Being informed that two groups of terrorists engaged into a gunfight in the area, a team of police went there around 4 am, said Khandakar Shamim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chaugachha Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals fled the spot, he said, adding that they found a bullet-hit criminal lying on the ground.

He was taken to Jessore 150-bed Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC said, adding that they also recovered a one shooter gun from the spot, according to a UNB report.

Earlier, on June 24, police recovered the bullet-hit bodies of two alleged criminals from Begaritala in Manirampur upazila.
