Law Minister Anisul Huq said that President Md Abdul Hamid would announce the name of new chief justice shortly.
“I believe, the president will announce the name today,” he said while briefing the media.
Asked whether the government order on the appointment will be issued on Friday, he replied, “The announcement will come shortly.”
Responding to a query on speculations over who will be the new top judge, Huq said, “We did not propose any names. And this is the president’s jurisdiction and I do not dare to intervene.”
The office of the chief justice fell vacant after Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned in November last year following his leave on health grounds the previous month,bdnews24.
Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the senior most judge of the appellate division has been performing functions as the CJ since early October.
