The University Grants Commission (UGC) will enhance monitoring efforts at the country’s public universities as most of the development projects made little progress in the implementation phase.

The implementation progress of most of the various development projects going on in the public universities of the country is not satisfactory and monitoring will be increased to complete the project on time.

The regulatory body emphasised this at a project evaluation meeting held at UGC in Dhaka on Thursday.

Member of planning and development division of UGC Prof Muhammad Alamgir demanded a faster progress while addressed the meeting on RDP review of the infrastructure and academic activities of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology.

“Most of the public universities are not completing the development projects on time, so the implementation time and cost are increasing. It is crucial to start and finish the development projects at universities on time,” he added.

Director of Planning and Development of UGC Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan chaired the meeting while KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Mihir Ranjan Halder was present.

Details of the project on the expansion of infrastructure and academic activities of KUET were presented at the meeting.

Implementation of the Tk 8.38 billion worth project to expand KUET infrastructure, upgrade education and research began in 2018.

Through this project, new academic buildings, student halls, faculty and staff residential buildings will be constructed. In addition, through this project, underground power lines will be laid in KUET and a green boundary will be constructed and modern scientific equipment will be purchased.
