A five-year-old child has died in Jhenaidah after allegedly being beaten by her mother for refusing to be fed.
The incident took place on Sunday morning in the Hajampara area of Shailkupa Upazila, said District Additional Superintendent of Police (Shailkupa Circle) Tarek Al Mehedi.
The dead has been identified as Jannati Khatun.
Police have arrested the girl’s mother Aleya Begum, reports bdnews24.com.
Superintendent Mehedi said that Jannati’s mother slapped her after she refused to eat rice.
She subsequently fell ill and was rushed to the Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared her dead, he added.
