Dhaka University (DU) teacher and news presenter Samia Rahman Monday alleged that she has been a victim of dirty teachers’ politics of the university.
“I was punished by the university syndicate without committing any crime. I had no signature in the article, which was deemed plagiarised by the syndicate,” she said.
Another DU teacher Syed Mahfuzul Haque Marjan used her name in the article without having permission, she said.
Besides, the letter reportedly sent by Alex Martin from Chicago Journal to vice-chancellor of the DU alleging plagiarism was ‘fake,’ she alleged.
Editor of Chicago Journal Craig Walker confirmed that Alex was not with the Chicago Journal, she claimed.
Ms Samia Rahman revealed these to newsmen, while speaking at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) to expose the misdeeds done against her.
The DU syndicate in a meeting in January demoted Samia Rahman, a teacher of Mass Communication and Journalism, from associate professor to assistant professor for her alleged involvement in plagiarising research content.
Marjan, however, was not demoted by the syndicate.
The DU syndicate decided that lecturer Marjan, who is now on study leave, will remain in the same post for two years after rejoining work.
Samia alleged that during the investigation period, she was denied lien by the university but Marjan was awarded a scholarship and granted leave, smelling rat in it.
Through the press conference, she also appealed to the DU chancellor, who is also the president of the country, to reveal the truth.
The chancellor can instruct the DU authorities to carry out a fair investigation in this regard, she added.
