Stocks open the week on positive note

The stock market witnessed a positive trend at the opening on Sunday as bargain hunters continued their buying interest in sector-specific issues.

Following the previous day’s gain, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 41.52 points, or 0.63 per cent, to stand at 6,556, after the first hour of trading at 10:30 am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also gained 18.68 points to reach 2,365 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 8.86 points to 1,438.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 5.94 billion after an hour of trading.

Market insiders said the bargain hunters showed their interest in lucrative stocks.

Of the issues traded, 49 advanced, 87 declined, and 120 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Orion Pharma became the most traded stock till then, with shares worth Tk 920 million changing hands.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also saw a positive trend till then with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI) gaining 91 points to stand at 19,232 while the Selective Categories Index (CSX) rose 55 points to reach 11,528, also at 10:30 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 66 advanced, 53 declined, and 47 remained unchanged, with a turnover of Tk 126 million till then.
