A sudden rain triggered traffic chaos in different parts of the capital with vehicles stranded on roads for a long lime, causing sufferings to commuters.

The heavy rain that started around 2 pm and lasted for half an hour gave its residents some relief from scorching heat of the last two days.

Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) recorded 52 mm rains during the period, according to a UNB report.

The water-logged roads in Moghbazar, Malibagh, Banasree, Hatirjheel, Mirpur and road digging works of different utility service departments mounted pedestrians' woes.

Bangladesh Metrological Department forecast that light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal & Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at isolated places over southern part of the country.

Beside, a low pressure area formed over East Central Bay and adjoining area was intensified into a well-marked low over East Central Bay and adjoining northeast Bay and then intensified into a depression and further intensified into a deep depression over the same area.

It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction, said the Met office in its forecast.
