T-Aman cultivation progressing fast in Pabna, Magura districts

PABNA, Aug 14: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting to produce over 0.2 million tonnes of T-Aman paddy output this season.

More than 0.7 million farmers of Pabna, Sirajganj, Bogura and Joypurhat districts are growing the paddy on around 70,000 hectares of land.

In a recent visit at different filed of the region this correspondent found farmers are busy transplanting T-Aman seedlings amid suitable climate condition with frequent rainfall.

Transplantation will complete within the current month.

Conventional Parija and Swarna paddy varieties are gaining popularity among the farmers.

The prolonging drought like situation has made somehow barricade to transplant the crops timely but the congenial weather is now rendering the farmers' T-Aman seedlings this season.

"I have brought some 10 bighas of land under T-Aman cultivation spending Tk 55,000 this season," said farmer Amzad Hossain of Pabna district.

"I am expecting to produce around 200 maunds of paddy", he added.

DAE office sources said the department has provided all necessary support to the farmers to make the programme a success.

Our Magura correspondent adds: T-Aman cultivation is going on in full swing in the district amid adequate rainfall, smooth supply of fertiliser, seedlings and work forces.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said they are expecting to bring 57,768 hectares of land under T-Aman cultivation with an output target of 1,67,850 tonnes.

Harish Mandal of Vitashair village under Magura Sadar said he is growing T-Aman on three bighas of land.

The grower said he expects some 60 maunds of production if the weather remains favourable.

Another farmer Taleb Sheikh of Ghoramara village under Sadar upazila said, "Frequent rain saves my irrigation cost."

"I am expecting a bumper production this season", he added.
